Documents
For international trade of specimens of species listed in the CITES Convention Appendices and in the Annexes of the Regulation (EC) nº 338/97 the following documents are required:

- CITES import permit: This permit is required to import specimens of species listed in Annex A or B of Regulation (EC) 338/97 into the European Union (EU).
- Export Permit and re-export Certificate: This permit is required to export or re-export specimens of species listed in Annex A or B of Regulation (EC) 338/97 into the European Union (EU).
- Personal ownership Certificate: This Certificate allows a person to travel with his/her pet to different countries during a period of three consecutive years without the need to obtain an import or export permit every time he/she enters or leaves the EU.
- Travelling exhibition Certificate: This Certificate is valid for 3 years, and allows circuses or other types of travelling exhibition to transport specimens across borders without the need to obtain an import, export, or re-export permit every time they enter or leave the EU.
- Import Notification: An Import Notification does not require authorization prior to goods entering the EU. The form should be completed by the importer (or his/her authorized agent or representative) at the time of introduction of specimens of species included in Annexes C and D of Regulation (EC) 338/97. The form for this document is a set of two forms:
- Original (Form number 1); white.
- Copy for importer (Form number 2); yellow.
- In the case of specimens of species listed in Annex C, a further document is required to prove the origin of the goods (CITES permit/certificate, or certificate of origin issued by the CITES Management Authority in the exporting country, whichever is appropriate). Specimens of species included in Annex D require no additional documents.
- There is no CITES fee for this type of document.
- The application form can be downloaded for submitting an application directly, at any of the SOIVRE Inspection Services, at the Territorial/Provincial Directorates for Trade; or electronically using a digital certificate in the Electronic Website of the Secretariat of State for Trade.
- Inspection Document for CITES Species (known as DIESAC in Spain): is the document necessary for the inspection and documentary control prior to customs clearance of those specimens of the species listed in the Appendices of the CITES Convention, or in the EU Annexes of the Regulation (EC) 338/97 and so required by Customs. When goods arrive at a Spanish Customs post, Customs Services will require this document from the importer, exporter, or re-exporter, in order to confirm that the goods correspond to the CITES specimens shown on the required CITES documents submitted at the EU entry or exit point. The application can be made electronically or physically in the case of natural persons.
- Inspection Document for non-CITES Species (known as NON-CITES DIESAC in Spain): is the document necessary for the inspection and documentary control prior to customs clearance of those specimens of the species not listed in the Appendices of the CITES Convention, or in the EU Annexes of the Regulation (EC) 338/97 and so required by Customs. When goods arrive at a Spanish Customs post, Customs Services can require this document from the importer, exporter, or re-exporter, in order to prove that the specimens contained in a shipment are not protected by the CITES Convention, or by applicable EU Regulations. The application can be made electronically or physically in the case of natural persons.
