CITES: Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora

NOTICE

On 10 December 2021, Royal Decree 986/2021 was published in the Official State Gazette, designating new authorities within the scope of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

It is reported that as of 2 January 2022, the Subdirectorate General for Foreign Trade Inspection, Certification and Technical Assistance will cease to exercise the functions corresponding to the CITES Management Authority and the Subdirectorate General for Terrestrial and Marine Biodiversity of the Directorate General for Biodiversity, Forests and Desertification, will assume the functions of CITES Management Authority and main CITES management body under the terms provided for in Council Regulation (EC) 338/97 of 9 December 1996 on the protection of species of wild fauna and flora by regulating trade therein.

Consequently, as of 2 January 2022, all applications for CITES permits and certificates, as well as any other application related to the application of the CITES Convention, must be submitted to the Subdirectorate General for Terrestrial and Marine Biodiversity of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.

Likewise, files pending resolution will be resolved by the Subdirectorate General for Terrestrial and Marine Biodiversity of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.
